This works. Look under the HTML 4.0 Entity column and keep scrolling down. Copy the characters, paste, and you’re set =)
It needs to be in HTML format like this "& character name ;"
That’s probably why your letters kept being deleted.

why would you WANT to??

If you are running windows XP click start all programs accessorys system tools and then character map. Look for the letter you want to use and to see how to type it click on the letter or accent and at the bottom of the window it will show an alt key stroke. You hold down the alt key then type in the number it shows there on the number pad (right side of the keyboard), release alt and it will type it. Exsmaple ñ is typed bye holding alt down and typing 0241 on the number pad

Easy way:
Alt 160 = á
Alt 130 = é
Alt 161 = í
Alt 162 = ó
Alt 163 = ú
Alt 164 = ñ
Not so easy way:
Start > Accesories > System Tools > Character Map
Find the characters you’d like to use, copy and paste.
Most difficult (but most practical in long-term) way:
Start > Control Panel > Regional and Language Options > Languages > Details…
This will temporarily switch your keyboard to spanish. Then, if you want to write "á" (for example), you’d press the key with [ and {, and then the "A" key. The : / ; key is the "ñ" now. You can easily switch from one to the other.
Hope this helps!
